Stanford study: Half of the fish consumed globally is now raised on farms

fish_sort.jpgAquaculture now accounts for half of the fish consumed globally, according to a recent Stanford study. The more than a decade-long trend toward fish farming is straining the resources of some wild fish species, which are harvested to feed the farmed varieties.

Global fisheries show potential for comeback

Cowcod_fisheries.jpgFive out of 10 global ecosystems once threatened by overfishing are on the mend, according to a new study. A collaboration of scientists from seven countries analyzed fish populations around the world and found that the mass of fish removed from the ocean every year has decreased in some fisheries.
